Hair Transplant Question I am thinking about getting it done. I wanted to know what keeps the newly transplanted hair from being affected with MPB just as the hair I have lost was. I'm thinking that mbp will affect any type of hair that is transplanted into receding areas.

You will have no problem with it falling out because of the different characteristics in those follicles. you never see a bald guy who is losing his hair on the sides or back, unless he shaves it by choice. I can't explain it but your doctor will be able to, if he can't that's a good sign of getting a new doctor. I just got my second surgery done to my hairline and I'm finally done with all this nonsense man. My hairline is back to when I was 17 and overall hair is thicker thanks to Propecia, Rogaine, and lasers. I'll post pics in a few months when my new hair grows in. As offensive as this may sound (not meaning to) i feel like a surviving cancer patient because I've battled this hair loss for 3 years now and now I can go back to my normal lifestyle of being worry free. I just need to keep on my Propecia, Rogaine, Laser method.

It does have "an effect", but it's not going to make it die and fall out. Mine did get a little thinner over six years than it was when it was at the back, but I didn't notice it at all until my laser helmet made all my hairs as thick as the ones on the side and back again. So, I never even noticed that it happened, and it was probably simply attributed to the fact that it wasn't planted in as "healthy of an environement" as it was before -insert whatever you think that means (fibrosis nearby, lymphatic system not functioning as well as it should, less capillaries, whatever). But let me say that EVERYONE should get a transplant! Still_searching is right... it's great to be done with this nonesense. You "level the playing field" again, and if you are smart and have a good regimen (that in my opinion MUST include a laser helmet) then you are set. Game over... you won. Mine was the greatest thing I've ever done in my life. ...And if I had a laser helmet back then , I certainly wouldn't be here now. I, of couse, didn't know of other treatments back then besides the two that were ineffective for me, so that's why I'm in this mess now. I probably WILL get another hair transplant this year, and then I'll be finished with this, too! Well, let me clarify, I'll be finished with being forced to put on Toppik! lol...

I gotta agree with the previous two guys -- I had 1200 grafts done in my crown five years ago and it was the BEST thing I've done for my hairloss since I started Propecia. The Propecia stopped the hairloss and grew some hair back, but after it peaked the translpant really filled in the thin crown. I was able to quit worrying about my thin hair and I even quit wearing a baseball hat all the gosh dang time. People have made comments that they heard I "used to be bald" but now I'm not... I love it. I'm considering getting one more transplant in the front to give me a better hairline, but it is still expensive and the prodedure and the recovery IS an ordeal, but WELL WORTH IT!

Appreciate the info. Could you guys give me the websites or emails of a couple of good doctors for the transplant. Also I am black, so I dont know if there are doctors that are better working with certain races. Also I'm 22 and I have been losing my hair since I was 19. What do you guys think the cost would be if I wanted to fill in my temple area, and get good density on my crown in the front. I live in the Washington, DC area so if you know of any good doctors in area please let me know.

I was in the same boat with you dude. I'm 23 and started losing hair around the same time. You say your losing hair at your crown too huh? If I could give you one life changing suggestion, get an Propecia ASAP! It's not cheap ~$75 for a months worth of pills but you will not regret it. I had two doctors refuse to put me on it when I was 20 and I have so much anger towards them. I feel that they have costed me $15,000 due to transplants that may have been avoidable. I'm almost wondering if I can file a lawsuit. Schedule an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible and dont take "NO" for an answer.I had 1200 grafts done to my hairline the first time and an additional 1500 the second time. There is a reason I did two surgeries... My doctor said he has done too many surgeries where he'll bring a hairline down a substantial amount for the patient and then the patient sees his new great head of hair and abandons his Propecia/Rogaine routine. This always results in a situation where 2x (maybe 3x) as many grafts are needed to fix the top part of the head later in life. So my doctor brought it down initally to where it was barely obvious that I was receding. After a year he saw the MAJOR affects Propecia has done to my top by stopping the hairloss and greatly thickening it again. I proved to him that I would not take his work for granted and would continue upkeep on the rest of my head. So he agreed to take my hairline straight across. He only did this for my safety. If he was a real asshole, he would've given me my initial 2700 grafts and not have given a rats ass about what happens to my hair later in life. He knew transplanting 2700 hairs to a hairline when i was sure to go bald on top would have really f'd me up later in life. He said the average person has about 8000-10,000 worth of grafts to be donated. To answer your $$ question. I would expect to pay $5-$7 per graft. So my first transplant I paid $6 per graft for 1200. My grand total was $7200. The second time he cut me a deal of $5 per graft for being a previous patient. So i did 1500 grafts for a total of $7500. Whats that add up to? a damn good down payment on a new BMW. Is it worth it? ABSOLUTELY. I dont regret it all. I can't recommend from experience anyone in DC. My guy was in West Hollywood, but has offices in NV and UT. Just do a little bit of research and go to consultations. Ask to see photos of their work. Remember, unless you have Propecia, each day is only going to put more of your existing hair down the sink.

Oh yeah, after reading the previous comments. OMG is right about those lasers. I bought one of those Hairmax combs right before everyone on this board started arguing the buying vs building option and I admit defeat when it comes, these products on the market really are no match to what a little bit of manual labor and research can do instead. Heres how I break this entire thing down, the transplant put hair back in to my temples and hairline which is, I think safe to say by now, impossible area to regrow hair. The Propecia stopped my hairloss and regrew enough to make the thinning disappear. The Rogaine has helped keep my crown in manageable condition. AND LASERS, are the icing on the cake, they are thickening every single shaft of hair on my head. Without a doubt. OMG proclaimed this in a diff. thread i think, but it is no longer any question to whether or not lasers work, they do! I can't wait for my summer posting. I want to do it now but the new transplanted hair is going to be over the top. Read OMG's instructions for laser devices. I admit when i first thought of building one i thought "oh great, where am i going to hide that damn thing so no friends or company ever finds it?" Well i'm past that now and truthfully i look at it as a big FU to all those bullshit companies trying to sell the newest and greatest MPB pills and devices. These are devices crafted by US, the people who are tired of waiting for that miracle pill to come out and instantly solve all the MPB problems. OMG has the science perfected and it aint that hard. http://www./

Another thing I dont understand about the transplant is that the hair from the donor area does not grow back. So does this mean that my hair will be thin in the back depending on how many grafts I want. The first doctor I spoke would told me the same thing that i should only get my crown filled in instead of my temples because of my age. I found a place in my area that has $3 grafts is that too cheap. The pictures on the website look decent. Here is the place www.virginiasurgical.com

Honestly man... I feel Dr. Alexander in Pheonix is severly underrated. I should have went with him instead of shopping for a doctor within my local area.

i have been using topical finasteride from genhair for the last 2 months. So far I have not see any results. My main reason for wanting the transplant is to have my temple area filled since I have lost alot of hair in that area.

im 22 and have been on fin for 2 years along with minox. Kept my hair but sides are fukn me over bro. If you can take fin without getting sides that would be sick but im ready to taper of fin now that ive built a laser helmet. The lasers will be my last shot until something like follica or another product enters the race. Id suggest getting onto making a laser helmet. I cant say wether it works for myself but read into www. and see what u think for yourself

Montrose 23 your quote i have been using topical finasteride from genhair for the last 2 months. So far I have not see any results. My main reason for wanting the transplant is to have my temple area filled since I have lost alot of hair in that area. Im coming up to 4.5 months on Genhairs topical Flutamide now and nothing to report. Bald n Beautiful is having some success with the Fin,Min,GTE,Flutamide version and Doke had even better success on topical Flut as I recall
