Hairloss News: New hairloss drug will make Leo grow |
A new drug for hair_loss_is expeced to be a real lift for the pharmaceutical company Leo, Denmarks second largest and often still called "Lövens Kemiska Fabrik". Under a long series of years the company has lacked a real bestseller. Linked to the current venture on the hairloss drug is a new collaboration agreement with the USA-giant Johnson&Johnson, which will help to break a certain stagnation. The company estimates the new project will increase the turn-over by a couple of billion DKR (1US$ approx 6-7DKR). It has since long been around five billion DKR. The hairloss drug has already been tested in a number of model- and animalstudies and all clinical data and other indications are reported to be posetive.
-I'd personally be greatly disappointed if we couldn't sell for 2 billion DKR of the new hairloss drug, says the chief research scientist Poul Rasmussen to the danish "Börsen". That was a spontaneous answere to the question of the calculated market potential.
The alliance with the medical-giant
Johnson&Johnson has up till now been kept secret. By the summer the trial period with
a smaller group of people who have been confronted with this miraculous hairlotion will
end. If the project holds what it promises, it can be launched to the public in 3 years.
Only in America the number of men who suffer from hereditary hairloss is estimated to 40
million. But since only 2.5 million is on some treatment the market is as enormous as
tempting for the drugcompanies. The danish Leo-bosses claims their hairloss drug is
clearly much more effective than the both drugs that are on the market today, one from MSD
and one from Pharmacia&Upjohn. Their sales today is estimated to about 160million US
dollars.
