1. A compound of the formula: ##STR165## in which: X represents O,

R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4, which are identical or different, represent a hydrogen atom or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 alkyl group;

R.sub.5 represents a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl group;

R.sub.6 represents a 2-pyridyl, 2-pyridyl N-oxide, 3-pyridyl, 3-pyridyl N-oxide, 4-pyridyl, 3-hydroxy-4-pyridyl group, optionally substituted on the carbon atoms by 1 to 3 substituents chosen from hydroxyl, nitro, cyano, C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 alkyl and C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 alkoxy;

R.sub.7 represents a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 alkoxy or C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 acyloxy group;

R.sub.8 and R.sub.9, which are identical or different, represent a hydrogen or halogen atom, a hydroxyl, nitro, cyano, trifluoromethyl, trifluoromethoxy, pentafluoroethyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 alkylthio, C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 acylthio, C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 alkylsulfonyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 alkylsulfinyl group, a group of formulae: ##STR166## in which R.sub.12 and R.sub.13 which are identical or different, represent a hydrogen atom or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 alkyl group, or R.sub.8 and R.sub.9 represent a C.sub.6 -C.sub.10 aryl, (C.sub.6 -C.sub.10)-arylsulfonyl or (C.sub.6 -C.sub.10)arylsulfinyl group, optionally substituted by one to six substituents chosen from halo, hydroxyl, nitro, cyano, carboxyl, carbamoyl, trifluoromethyl, trifluoromethoxy, pentafluoroethyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 alkylthio, C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 acylthio, C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 alkylsulfonyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 alkylsulfinyl,

or R.sub.8 and R.sub.9 together form a group (CH.sub.2).sub.n, n being 4,

an N-oxide thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

Abstract: The subject of the invention is compounds of general formula: ##STR1## in which: X represents O or CHR,

R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4, which are identical or different, represent a hydrogen atom or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 alkyl group, it being possible for R.sub.1 to additionally form a bond with R;

R.sub.5 represents a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl group or R.sub.5, taken together with R.sub.7, forms a bond or a &gtdO group;

R.sub.6 represents a group of formula: ##STR2## in which R.sub.10 and R.sub.11, taken together with the carbon atom to which they are attached, form a nitrogenous heterocyclic group, and their N-oxides and pharmaceutically acceptable salts. These compounds are powerful activators of potassium channels.
