Merck to Evaluate Propecia's Effect on Surgery Patients

By John Ertel
May 6, 2000

Merck's study will examine the changes Propecia has in hair shedding and the stimulation of regrowth following a transplant. The study will be conducted by Medical Hair Restoration, one of the nation's largest hair transplant clinics.

Sixty participants are needed for the study. Participants must be males between the ages of 20 and 45 and in good health. Other requirements include that they not have had any type of hair transplant or scalp reduction procedure; not have used minoxidil for the past six months or Propecia for the past year; be willing to have a single dot tattoo placed on the scalp; and fall in the hair loss class IV – VI on the Norwood / Hamilton scale. Participants are required to take one pill per day for an entire year.

Participants will receive a 30-35 percent discount on their hair transplant procedure upon completing the requirements of the study. Patients will also receive one year of Propecia at no charge.

This clinical trial will last for one year and it will take place at Medical Hair Restoration’s office in Heathrow (Orlando), Fla. Men who are interested in participating should contact Donna Ruder at (407) 333-4200 ext. 113 for more details.
