Propecia is an FDA-approved drug for treating hair loss. It comes in a 1mg pill form and is available by prescription only for men, costing around $45-50 per month. Propecia grows hair in about 50% of men after one year and around 66% of men after two years of use. Overall, around 85% of men do not lose any more hair while using Propecia. The most common side effects are decreased sexual desire or lowered amount of ejaculate, which occurred in less than 2% of men. It should be noted, however, that almost as many men who received the placebo experienced this as well.
