 Types of Minoxidil

Generally, Minoxidil is available in two of its types. Types are taken as the concentration of Minoxidil. Most commonly used Minoxidil concentrations are as follow

  • 2% concentration of Minoxidil
  • 5% concentration of Minoxidil

These are used most commonly in the treatment of hair fall. As far as concentration is concerned, so higher concentration will assure high result with some pace. But it also increases risks of side effects.

2 % Minoxidil Concentration:

In the beginning, 2% concentration of Minoxidil was recognized by the Foods and Drug Administration of the United States. It was used to treat the patent of high blood pressure, as it was discovered the new side of Minoxidil, which was hair regrowth. Dermatologist started using it in hair treatment.

This was a water-based solution, by using this solution, the goal of gaining hair again and to maintain the existing hair also can be obtained by this solution. This solution has fewer amounts of side effects as compared to other solutions of Minoxidil.

This solution of 2% of Minoxidil concentration is generally used to treat female pattern baldness.

5% Minoxidil Concentration:

This solution is based on alcohol and propylene glycol. This solution is more effective than 2% in regrowing the lost hairs. It does help in gaining hair more effectively and more quickly but it also increases the side effects as you move towards higher concentration.

Generally, 5% concentration of Minoxidil is used on men as their skin is not as sensitive as of women. Men have the potential to survive more against the side effects.

As we moved to 5% concentration of Minoxidil from 2% of concentration it clearly showed that as concentration is increased more effective it will get to overcome hair loss problem. Some companies also launched 10% Minoxidil concentration and 15% also.

Best Between 2% and 5%

As we compare in the result and output in terms of hair regrowth, the higher concentration will provide more result. 5% is more effective and show result quickly as compare to 2% of Minoxidil.

2% Minoxidil concentration also has its own significance. If your hair loss is in the initial stage or you want to maintain your hairs so you should 2% Minoxidil concentration.

Why going to hard? After all, they are just dead cells. Why you want a rapid result? You already faced a lot on baldness why not to wait little more you get the best results without any risks.

It has also been suggested overtimes that do not use Minoxidil of higher concentration than 5% to stay away from side effects.

What About Safety?

It is a hundred and ten percent true that as we increase concentration it will help more but on the side effects also increases. That going from 5% and 15% concentration significantly increases the chances of side effects like

  • Blood pressure instability
  • Heart palpitations
  • Headaches
  • hair growth in unwanted places
